Color War

After breakfast, there was an arts and crafts table that M and the wee bairn hung out at, while I went for a hike with a bunch of other people. I got to catch up with some old friends I hadn't seen in years, and that was very cool. It was also a nice hike.

When we got back, we relaxed a bit and enjoyed the outdoors and talked with friends and such. Lunch was a collection of great sandwiches, after which we were split up into our "teams" for the camp olympics. I was on the Mountain Lions, and the other teams were the Eagles, Stags, and Turtles. Although eagles are indeed awesome, we were by far the coolest team. We got bandanas to distinguish us, and M looked very papal in hers.

After this, the day flew by, and I have no pictures to tell the tale. M has a few more that illustrate the day here. Basically, we had to produce a team skit and a team cheer (and make a team flag) for performing after dinner, and there were camp games (egg carry, water balloon toss, 3-legged race, crab walk, etc.). I got into the spirit by completely covering myself in various writings, and contributing the "intimidation" factor of our flag (a tail coming out from behind a tree, with the words "It's Too Late" underneath it), and our cheer ("Mountain Lions! Our Cheer! The Last Sound You'll H...."), and a brief portion of our skit.

We also played a great game of pickup kickball, in which I went as balls-out as possible, made some great plays, and then lost it for our team with some faulty base-running. Ah, well. M thought maybe I was being a bit too competitive for a kickball game.

The kickball resulted in my being way too worn out for the olympics, where I helped out in an event but otherwise did not participate heavily. B won the crab race and the pie-eating contest, the only events we really did well at.

During the balloon toss, the sky got really dark and opened up on us with some of the heaviest rain I've ever seen. Lots of people got drenched, and we came inside for dinner. I had met a lot of really cool people, so we hung out and enjoyed a multi-course dinner (gazpacho, goat cheese/beet salad, beef wellington, pies from the pie-baking contest, and Manning ice cream), plus lots of wine, and some Eagle Rare, Basil Hayden, and Talisker. The flags were judged, the skits were performed, and the cheers were cheered. In the end, we came out second to the Eagles, which was ok with us and spawned a chorus of "We're Number Two!!!".

Wow, long, fun day.
