Exercise in Procurement

After work, M was editing so I dled my tivoed "Van Helsing" movie to the laptop and finished it. I really don't know why I've been so interested in seeing the movie. Everyone says it's awful and as it turns out, they were right.

(SPOILER ALERT!!!)

It was just ridiculously dumb. The characters were stupid, the plot was stupid, the humor was stupid, and there's a more than a few times where you're saying to yourself "Where did they come up with this? How is he 400 years old? Where did Kate Beckinsale get that form fitting outfit and heels in this time period? Why did the vampire brides just scream and run away when one of them was killed instead of taking less than a second to finish off Kate Beckinsale's character which would have ended the movie immediately? How exactly can Frankenstein's Monster give life to dead vampire babies all of which result from a single (and undoubtedly extremely painful) birthing by incredibly hot vampire brides who certainly don't LOOK like they've had children? And The Wolfman? Really? WHO WROTE THIS?!?!?"

(SPOILERS OVER)

So yeah, for a really good "idea" for a movie, this was not good. I do not recommend it, unless you are a Kate Beckinsale fan, in which case, you have already seen it. Let's be honest here, she's not popular for her acting skills.

After the movie, I decided to finally get around to doing some baking that I've been meaning to do for a long time. I dug out my Alton Baking cookbook (more on that later) and found three things I wanted to make.

Armed with an ingredient list and my shoulder bag, I decided to walk up to Safeway, about 1.5M away. Since running is out for me for the next 6 weeks, I'm trying to at least WALK the milage I need so I'm not horribly out of shape when I start up again. Again...ugh.

I fired up some tunes on the way and Flogging Molly kicked in just as I passed Boston St. Folgging Molly is not from Boston, but it's hard to listen to Irish-style Punk without thinking of Boston. So that was nice.

It also reminded me that I'm not happy about the recent debut of "Dangerous Profession" TV shows coming out. As I've mentioned before, I am a big fan of "Deadliest Catch", the crab fisherman show which is hugely popular in the northwest. However, Discovery Channel has decided that we now also need "Ice Road Truckers", about truckers who make 10,000 trips to a North Canadian mining operation on a, you guessed it, ice road. They are also introducing "Lobster Wars" about New England lobster fisherman. The trailers for the show feature montages set to, of course, Irish-style Punk.
