Last Quiet Hours

The square consists of the concert house, which you can see has the same speckled effect of being significantly rebuilt after the war, and two almost identical churches, one catholic, one huguenot, which is kind of neat.

There's a restaurant that has set some tables up in the square so we grab a seat. They don't have much in the way of dinner, mostly salads and lighter fare, which after all the meat and fat we've eaten in the past week is just fine by us.

Our waitress speaks some English, and explains the menu to us. She has some difficulty with "schinken", a type of ham, so she giggles and points to her butt to explain what kind of meat it is.

Also, Adam asks for ice for his water and she brings us an ice cream menu. "Eis" is ice cream. We learn to ask for "eis wurfel" (cubes) next time. Unfortunately, this is it for us in Germany. We will leave very early the next day for our 9ish flight, and I'm having that usual mix of sadness at leaving somewhere I like, and the happiness of going home.

Actually, I don't get to go home just yet. Chicago and that meeting is next for me. Home will be late Thursday night.

I'm not thinking about the rest of the week just now, though, and I enjoy my salad (with delicious, not-too-pickled artichokes), an Erdinger, and a classical violinist playing on the square as the sun sets. It has been a long, enjoyable day, and this is an excellent way for it to end.
